• IOM's Displacement Tracking Matrix later put the total even higher, at over 15 million people displaced (nearly one in three people in Sudan), so 14 million is a conservative figure.
• The description 'world's largest refugee crisis' is slightly imprecise: the majority (about 9 million) are internally displaced persons, while roughly 4.4 million are refugees abroad; the standard characterisation is the world's largest displacement crisis (and largest internal displacement crisis).
