The most recent official data comes from the FRA 2026 survey published March 2026, which the MEP could have known at the time of the April 27, 2026 session.
The 2026 survey shows one in three women (30.7%) experience physical and/or sexual violence combined, which is a broader category.
The figure of 'almost one in five' actually corresponds more closely to intimate partner violence (19% or one in five women face violence at the hands of their intimate partner) rather than sexual violence alone.
Previous 2014 FRA survey data showed 11% of women had experienced sexual violence involving physical force, indicating an increase in reported prevalence over time.
