In the European Union, around 87 million people live with some type of disability.

• The figure of 87 million has been cited by the European Commission as an estimate for several years. More recent Eurostat data from 2024 indicates that 23.9% of people aged 16 and over (approximately 87 million when applied to the EU population) reported having a disability or activity limitation.
