The MEP cites 'over 10,000 accounts' which, while technically accurate, significantly understates the magnitude of the scandal. The actual figure is over 40,000 affected accounts.
The Central Bank of Ireland's final Tracker Mortgage Examination Report from July 2019 identified 40,100 affected accounts, and more recent data from November 2025 indicates over 42,000 accounts were impacted.
The scandal involved 99 homes lost and 216 buy-to-let properties lost due to bank failures.
