The clearest supporting statement ('El total del agua consumida en Lanzarote es hoy desalada, también en Fuerteventura', i.e. essentially 100% for both islands) comes from an El País article dated 2018-01-20, i.e. more than 2 years old; more recent data is needed to confirm the current share.
More recent (2025) reporting indicates that on Fuerteventura desalinated water represents between 70% and 90% of consumption, so the '>90%' figure is at the upper end of the range for that island and is not uniformly confirmed.
The claim aggregates two islands with different situations and does not distinguish between Lanzarote (very high dependence, ~100%) and Fuerteventura (70-90%), which can give a misleadingly uniform impression.
