Under the narrower bioeconomy definition, value added is substantially lower than €2.7 trillion; the JRC DataM monitoring page reports value added of EUR 1.9–2.7 trillion only for a broader 'bioeconomy-relevant sectors' definition covering 42–60 million jobs (19–28% of EU employment). The MEP's pairing of 17 million jobs with €2.7 trillion value added mixes the narrow employment definition with the upper bound of the broad value-added range.
• The data describe 2023 (the most recent monitoring year), not the present moment of the speech in 2026; the MEP's wording 'already today' slightly compresses the reference period.
• An earlier OECD report (April 2025, citing EUBA 2021 data for 2019) gives a lower turnover figure of almost EUR 2.4 trillion with more than 17 million jobs, showing that the €2.7 trillion figure comes from the Commission's most recent (2023) monitoring update.
• The claim was made on 2026-07-08; the confirming Commission news release was published on 2025-11-27, i.e. before the session, so the MEP could have known it.
