• The Commission's official simplification page puts the annual saving at €14 billion for the same twelve omnibus proposals, whereas the speech claimed 'around €17 billion a year'.
• Earlier Commission estimates were even lower: the omnibus packages were initially said to reduce recurrent administrative costs by almost €12 billion (for the first ten proposals), showing a progressive but lower trajectory than the claimed €17 billion.
• The figure is presented without the caveat that these are ex-ante estimated 'recurrent administrative cost' savings, dependent on co-legislator adoption, and not yet realised.
• Several of the sources covering the claim (Euronews, EuInsider) report the speech made on 16 September 2026 and are therefore same-day coverage of the event; the underlying authoritative figure is the Commission's own simplification page.
