The claim was made in February 2026 but the most recent comprehensive global wealth data available at that time would be from the UBS Global Wealth Report 2024 (covering 2023 data). The 2025 report may not have been published yet by February 2026.
The bottom 50% actually holds approximately 2% of global wealth, which is even less than the 'less than a tenth' claimed - the MEP's figure understates the disparity.
Data refers to household/net personal wealth, not total wealth including government/public assets.
