• The MEP did not specify the poverty threshold used ($1.90/day at 2011 PPP, the World Bank's definition of extreme poverty). The figure refers specifically to extreme poverty, not poverty in general. China's economic growth accounted for approximately 75% of this global reduction. The claim does not mention that progress has slowed since 2015 and that the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily reversed some gains.
