The MEP used the 2025 ranking (159th) instead of the 2026 ranking (163rd), which had been published approximately six weeks before the session and was the most current data available.
Turkey's position in the index worsened by four places between the 2025 and 2026 editions, a deterioration the MEP did not acknowledge.
By using the outdated figure, the MEP presented a slightly less severe picture of Turkey's press freedom situation than the most recent data warranted.
