Turkey ranks 159th out of 180 countries in the World Press Freedom Index.

Omissions

• The MEP used the 2025 ranking (159th) instead of the 2026 ranking (163rd), which had been published approximately six weeks before the session and was the most current data available.
• Turkey's position in the index worsened by four places between the 2025 and 2026 editions, a deterioration the MEP did not acknowledge.
• By using the outdated figure, the MEP presented a slightly less severe picture of Turkey's press freedom situation than the most recent data warranted.
