Wages in the European Union are not rising in the same proportion as prices

- The claim asserts that EU wages are not rising in the same proportion as prices, but official data show real (inflation-adjusted) wages have been growing in the EU/euro area since Q3 2023 and in Q3 2025, i.e. wages have been rising faster than prices.

- The claim was likely still valid for 2022–2023, when nominal wage growth was roughly half of EU inflation (ETUC, citing Eurostat: inflation 9.2%, wage growth about half of that).
- The ECB notes real wages have 'largely' but perhaps not fully recovered, and the OECD (March 2026) notes the real wage recovery is slowing — a residual cumulative gap may remain.
- The most recent euro-area wage data (Trading Economics, Q2 2026, 3.0% YoY) post-dates the session only slightly and is a tertiary source.
- The most relevant primary sources (OECD March 2026, Eurostat/EC 2025 reviews) are published close to or after the session date.
