Last year the EU and its member states provided almost EUR 32 billion of public money in international climate finance.

- The €31.7 billion figure refers to calendar year 2024, not 2025: the Council's annual climate finance figures for a given year are published only in late October of the following year (the 2024 figures were released on 27 October 2025), so at the time of the 21 October 2026 plenary the 2025 aggregate was not yet available.
- The figure covers public climate finance only; the same official release notes that an additional €11 billion of private finance was mobilised in 2024, bringing the total contribution to around €42.7 billion.
- A large part of EU public climate finance is provided as loans and guarantees rather than grants, a point often omitted in political framing of the headline figure.
