Omissions

• The MEP did not specify the metric (FDI stocks only, or including portfolio investment), the valuation method (book value, historic cost, or market value), or the reference year, all of which substantially affect the total.
• The European Commission's own official figure for 2024 mutual FDI stocks is €4.8 trillion — approximately USD 5.2 trillion — which is about 13-15% below the USD 6 trillion claimed.
• The AmCham Transatlantic Economy 2025 report, using historic-cost FDI data for 2023, estimates the total at approximately USD 7.5 trillion, about 25% above the claimed figure.
• The Commission press release from May 2026 stating the €4.8 trillion figure was published before the session date and would have been known to the MEP as a Commission official.
