The claim's metric is petrol, but petrol prices in Belgium on the session date were well below €2.50: €2.064/litre (Super 95 E10) to €2.30/litre (Super 98 E5). The figure of €2.50 is closer to the diesel (B7) maximum price, which hovered around €2.49/litre.
Petrol prices actually rose AFTER the session date: the Super 95 (E10) maximum was increased by 4 cents to €2.105/litre on 12 October 2026, a change the MEP could not have known on 7 October 2026.
The party's framing (PVDA-PTB) tends to emphasise fuel affordability; the €2.50 figure selects the highest pump price and applies it to petrol, overstating the standard petrol price by roughly 21%.
