Omissions

• The claim highlights the increase in the NUMBER of rural fires (+6.7%) but omits that the BURNED AREA fell sharply over the same period — 187,046 fewer hectares burned (-73.5%) than in the same period of 2025. Presenting only the fire count without the area-burned context may create a misleading impression of the overall fire situation.
• According to the same ICNF data, the burned area in 2026 was still the fifth highest of the last decade, and Portugal continued to lead the EU in burned area, context that is also relevant to a balanced assessment.
