We import oil and gas for 400 billion euros every year.

Omissions

• The figure of €400 billion is rounded up from actual data. The 2024 figure for all energy products was €375.9 billion, and oil and gas specifically would be a subset of this total.
• The 2025 data (€336.7 billion) was published on March 25, 2026, after the claim was made on March 11, 2026, so the MEP could not have known this figure.
• Energy products include not only oil and gas but also solid fossil fuels (coal) and other energy sources, meaning the specific oil and gas import value is lower than the total energy products figure.
